Toutle is located 10 miles (16 km) east of Castle Rock WA. Toutle is located on SR 504, which is also known as Spirt Lake Memorial Highway. The Toutle community, similar to Toutle River, takes its name from the Hullooetell, a band of the Skillot - a Chinookan tribe. The Toutle community is part of the Toutle Lake School District, a K-12 school district of about 600 students.

Toutle is a small rural community located in southwest Washington, near the base of Mt St Helens. It lies in Cowlitz County and is known for its scenic
surroundings, including forests and rivers. The area gained national attention due to its proximity to the 1980 eruption of Mt St Helens, which significantly impacted the region. Today, Toutle is a quiet residential area with history tied to the volcanic eruption and the recovery of the surrounding landscape. It is also home to outdoor recreations opportunities like camping, hiking, kayaking and fishing.
