SUMMARY:Stage Door: Laura Love and Orville Johnson
DESCRIPTION:Since the early 1990s Laura Love has been driving audiences wild at music festivals and respected venues the world over. It is easy to see why: Laura is not only an astonishing vocalist and inventive songwriter\, she is a sparkling performer with an irrepressible sense of fun and a unique style that is\, well…unique. She is an African-American funk bassist with a deep love of folk\, Americana\, bluegrass\, R&B\, country\, blues and jazz. She loves James Brown almost as much as she loves Jimmy Martin. She grew up listening to Sly and The Family Stone and Loretta Lynn. Her early musical ears were equally influenced by The Jackson Five and The Weavers. Are you getting the picture? We think so. \n\n\n\nLaura is accompanied by the master of country/blues slide and picked guitar\, Orville Johnson. Orville is a well respected multi-instrumentalist and soulful vocalist and has had a long career playing with a variety of great partners such as Mark Graham\, John Cephas\, Woody Mann\, Mike Auldridge\, and Stacy Philips. He has appeared on Prairie Home Companion\, Jay Leno’s Tonight Show and was featured in the 1997 film\, Georgia\, with Mare Winningham. His recordings have been used in the soundtracks of PBS’ Frontier House and the Peter Fonda film\, The Wooly Boys\, as well as the on the compilation CD\, “Legends of the Incredible Lap Steel Guitar”. \n\n\n\nTogether\, Laura and Orville are a powerhouse duo: two big vocals\, exquisite guitar and funky bass. They perform Laura’s originals and a remarkable array of folk\, country\, spirituals\, gospel and blues songs. Some of you might remember these two tearing down the house at Royce Hall as part of the Ash Grove’s 50th anniversary concert a couple years ago. Come help them do the same thing for this Stage Door Concert!

SUMMARY:Rainy Month Series: Doktor KABOOM Under Pressure
DESCRIPTION:Doktor Kaboom: Under Pressure! Co-commissioned by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts\, Family Theatre. In this exciting new work\, Doktor Kaboom\, along with a magnificent cast of volunteers\, demonstrates the power of pressure. Something all around us\, which although we cannot see it\, affects us all. Equal parts interactive science\, comedy\, and personal empowerment messages\, Doktor Kaboom: Under Pressure! clearly illustrates physical science concepts which are also metaphors for some of the real-life mental and emotional pressures we all experience. If you’ve seen Doktor Kaboom\, you know he is as passionate about empowering individuals as he is about science. Always on the lookout for opportunities to inspire audiences to be their best selves Dr. K elevates volunteers to being the heroes of the moment. In Under Pressure! Kaboom will validate the pressures some students may feel and share tools and life lessons as resources for dealing with the difficulties that face us all. “It will be our most intentioned show yet. As well as learning and having fun with science\, Under Pressure! is going to spark conversations and let young people know their feelings are real\, and they are not alone.”

SUMMARY:Love Street Playhouse - Moon over Buffalo
DESCRIPTION:In the madcap comedy tradition of Lend Me a Tenor\, the hilarious Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay\, fading stars of the 1950s. At the moment\, they’re playing Private Lives and Cyrano De Bergerac in rep in Buffalo\, New York with five actors. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingénue\, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee\, and if he likes what he sees\, he might cast them in his movie remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte\, everything that could go wrong does go wrong\, abetted by a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing\, caused by Charlotte’s deaf\, old stage-manager mother who hates every bone in George’s body. \n\n\n\nDirected by Melinda PallottaTickets available to Season Pass Holders March 18Available to the public March 25Ticket price $26 \n\n\n\nVIEWER CAUTION: Moon Over Buffalo is generally considered a PG-rated play\, suitable for most audiences but may contain some mild language and situations that some parents might find unsuitable for younger children.
