Mount St. Helens

Breathtaking Views of an Active Volcano

Cowlitz County offers two popular routes for accessing sightseeing and recreational opportunities in the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument.

State Route 504, the Spirit Lake Memorial Highway, follows the 51-mile northern corridor along the Toutle River Valley. SR 504 begins at I-5 Exit 49 near Castle Rock and terminates at the Johnston Ridge Observatory. This route affords visitors breathtaking views of the mountain, world-class visitors centers, and a host of attractions. State Route 503, the Lewis River Highway, begins at I-5 Exit 21 at Woodland and provides access to the rugged south side of Mount St. Helens where numerous recreational opportunities are available.
