A Diverse Community
Kalama is a community of 1,700, located off Interstate 5 at Exit 30. Interstate 5 bisects the city, with downtown on the eastside and commercial/industrial and recreation sites on the west.
Founded in the late 1840s, Kalama was named after John Kalama, a Hawaiian native who settled in the area after marrying the daughter of a Nisqually chief.
Today, Kalama is a diverse community with a growing economic base. The quaint downtown offers numerous antique shops and restaurants. Additional attractions include a large marina, waterfront park, and a 140-foot totem pole that is the tallest one-piece totem in the world
